Laura's practice is devoted to civil litigation, including healthcare litigation, professional medical liability, pharmaceutical liability, labor and employment litigation, insurance litigation and appellate advocacy. She has tried over 25 civil cases before a jury and has successfully argued before the Alabama Supreme Court. Laura serves on Brookwood Medical Center’s Ethics Committee, and she frequently speaks to professional groups about litigation and employment issues.
Recent career highlights include:

Obtained affirmance by the Alabama Supreme Court of judgment as a matter of law entered in favor of psychiatrist, who was accused of negligently causing the death of a patient who committed suicide following her discharge from the hospital.

Obtained a jury verdict in favor of a physician in a case involving complications following a surgical procedure.

Obtained a complete dismissal of wrongful death claims against a physician in Federal Court based on a Daubert challenge.

Successfully represented a major university in an age and gender discrimination case brought by a former president.

Currently defending a physician in a discrimination case stemming from a medical peer review.

Obtained a jury verdict in favor of a hospital in a medical negligence case.

Successfully defended a university in a case that received national attention involving alleged sexual abuse of a student by fellow student athletes.
In the community, Laura is a board member of Bigtime Ministries. She is also active in The Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham, and recently served as Co-Chair of the Giving Circle of the 2008 Voices Against Violence Campaign, where she introduced the keynote speaker, Chief Justice Cobb. Over 30 local judges attended and supported the Voices Against Violence Campaign and more than $110,000 was raised for an initiative to reduce the incidence of domestic violence in the community.
