In her 20 years at Lightfoot, Suzanne has developed a truly unique niche. She is the firm’s go to lawyer for mastering plaintiffs’ claims in mass tort defense. Her role in distilling inconsistent claims in alleged mass exposure cases from isocyanates to PCBs to Chinese drywall and others has proved invaluable. In fact, in one set of cases, a co-defendant asked to retain Suzanne to support their defense effort after Lightfoot’s client was dismissed from the case. No lawyer could receive a better compliment.
Suzanne’s practice focuses mainly on the defense of industry in complex environmental, toxic tort, product liability and mass tort cases. Knowing the individual plaintiffs can be as essential as choosing expert witnesses, because these plaintiffs will be the ones who tell their stories at trial. Discovering and analyzing everything about plaintiffs and their backgrounds helps Suzanne assist in crafting a defense that allows Lightfoot’s client’s story to be the one that resonates with the jury and wins the day. That ability to understand the way both plaintiffs and juries think has been an invaluable asset to Suzanne’s clients.
Suzanne graduated from The University of Alabama, magna cum laude, with a B.S. degree in Commerce and Business Administration and a concentration in Psychology, and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma and Psi Chi. She received her law degree in 1991 from The University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alabama Law Review and served as a justice on the Honor Court. She is a member of the Birmingham and American Bar Associations, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the Alabama State Bar.
In her free time, Suzanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, watching Alabama football and following former Alabama players in the NFL.
