Vachon et al v. Bradford Building Company, Inc.

A group of five plaintiffs sued Bradford Building in Lee County for damages to their properties arising from water and silt running off from a building site into their yards. The jury found in favor of the plaintiffs for trespass and wantonness, awarding a total of $660,001 in compensatory damages and $1,200,000 in punitive damages, for a total judgment of $1,860,001. Lightfoot attorneys William Brooks and Ivan Cooper were retained post-verdict to handle the post-judgment motions and appeal. On post-judgment motions, the trial court upheld the compensatory damage award but reduced the punitive damages to $643,560, reducing the total judgment to $1,303,561. The case is currently on appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court.
