Brandon Essig Appointed to Alabama State Bar Cybersecurity Task Force

March 11, 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 7, 2018) — Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Brandon K. Essig has been appointed to serve on the 2017-2018 Alabama State Bar Cybersecurity Task Force. The group met for the first time this week.

The newly created task force will examine ways to protect sensitive information at the Alabama State Bar and the Office of General Counsel, in order to prevent cyberattack and theft. The seven-person task force is comprised of cybersecurity experts across the state who will report to the bar president and executive committee.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this position and look forward to serving the bar,” said Essig. “As we’ve seen with recent high-profile hacks and breaches, cybersecurity is a critical issue today, and it’s a growing area of importance for our clients as well.”

Essig is a member of the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense and Corporate Investigations practice group. He joined Lightfoot after nearly eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Alabama where he tried multiple felony jury trials a year, including public corruption, money laundering and various fraud cases. Prior to his time at the Department of Justice, Essig served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. His experience also includes serving in the legal department of a major defense contractor.
