Ashby Pate Speaks (and Sings) at Trial Network Event
November 9, 2021
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Ashby Pate spoke at a program hosted by The Trial Network this past weekend. The event ("In-House and Outside Counsel: In Sync and In Person") hosted attorneys from across the country from November 4-7 on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Pate presented his renowned talk on legal ethics titled "Be The Light: The Art of Storytelling in Trial Advocacy and the Importance of Human Connection in the Law," which includes a one-of-a-kind musical introduction. His presentation takes a deep dive into the significance of storytelling in jury trials, the importance of getting close to the problems lawyers are called upon to solve, and the lawyer’s ethical duty to establish human connection in his or her approach to trial advocacy.
Pate is frequently invited to speak to organizations across the state and country. He focuses his practice on international disputes, appellate work, and commercial and medical device litigation. He routinely takes on some of the firm’s most controversial matters, including prosecuting a high-profile case that led to the suspension of former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice Roy Moore. As an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Palau, Pate helped design the island nation’s first-ever jury trial system.
