Terry McCarthy Named Fellow of Birmingham Bar Foundation

Lightfoot, Franklin & White partner Terry McCarthy has been named a fellow of the Birmingham Bar Foundation.

The announcement took place at the Bar Foundation’s 2026 Fellows Dinner on Feb. 20. Fellows are nominated by their peers for excellence in their practice and demonstrating a deep commitment to justice, professionalism and the advancement of the legal profession. 

McCarthy has served as lead trial and appellate counsel in matters nationwide. He has supported clients in insurance cases by defending hundreds of bad-faith, fraud and breach of contract claims. In employment law, he defends corporations against charges involving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Title VII lawsuits, facility compliance and noncompete agreements. 

A recognized authority on evidence issues, McCarthy co-authored the Seventh Edition of McElroy’s Alabama Evidence and Gamble’s Alabama Rules of Evidence. These are the two leading treatises on evidence procedures in the state.
