Lightfoot Secures Product Liability Defense Win for Techtronic
April 22, 2026
Partners Chandler Bailey and Christopher Yearout, along with associate Gabriel Dowdell and Chief Technology Officer Corey Thomas, successfully defended client Techtronic Industries (TTI) in a product liability case in late February in Maryland.
The plaintiffs alleged that a product manufactured by TTI caused property damage in their garage and asserted strict product liability claims as a result. The defense team challenged those allegations through targeted pretrial and trial advocacy, securing key evidentiary wins that limited the plaintiffs’ ability to advance their claims. Dowdell successfully argued motions in limine that narrowed the evidence presented to the jury, while Yearout delivered TTI’s opening statement, setting the tone for a winning case. Yearout and Bailey examined pivotal witnesses throughout the trial, and Thomas provided technology support to ensure the efficient and effective presentation of evidence.
At the close of the plaintiffs’ case, the team moved for judgment as a matter of law. During oral argument, the court noted that it had never granted such a motion in any prior case. The court ultimately concluded that the plaintiffs had failed to meet their burden of proof and granted the motion, dismissing the case with prejudice and bringing the matter to a favorable resolution for TTI.
