Lightfoot Supports Better Basics’ Love for Literacy Breakfast
September 18, 2025
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC was proud to serve as a partner-level sponsor of Better Basics’ annual Love for Literacy Breakfast in August. The event is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds supporting intervention, enrichment and book distribution programs for children across Central Alabama, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Lightfoot’s Elizabeth H. Huntley was a featured speaker at this year’s breakfast. Huntley, a longtime advocate for education and child welfare, shared her personal story and perspective on the transformative power of literacy and education.
Founded in 1993 by Birmingham attorney John Glasser, Better Basics advances literacy and academic achievement for Alabama’s most vulnerable students. Today, the organization reaches thousands of children each year through tutoring, enrichment programs and book distribution.
In addition to Huntley’s participation, Lightfoot managing partner Melody H. Eagan serves on the Better Basics Board of Directors, and marketing specialist Lucy Eck serves on the Junior Board.
