Negotiating favorable settlement for building company during appeal.

A group of five plaintiffs sued our client, a building company, for damages to their properties arising from water and silt running off from a building site into their yards. The jury found in favor of the plaintiffs for trespass and wantonness, awarding compensatory damages and punitive damages, for a total judgment of $1.8 million. Lightfoot attorneys were retained post-verdict to handle the post-judgment motions and appeal. On post-judgment motions, the trial court upheld the compensatory damage award but reduced the punitive damages. The case settled while on appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court.
