Sandy joined Lightfoot in 2004 and has focused his practice on product liability, premises liability, transportation litigation, and business litigation. He has particular expertise in defending heavy truck manufacturers and motor carriers in suits arising from catastrophic accidents.  He also regularly defends manufacturers of medical devices, automotive components, and a supplier of railroad services and equipment.

Sandy has successfully tried jury cases, bench cases, and has presented oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Most recently, Sandy defended a European medical device manufacturer in a jury trial in which the plaintiff alleged that he was severely injured by a surgical instrument during a cervical spine operation. The case settled during trial on very favorable terms for the manufacturer.  He holds law licenses in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee and represents some clients on a regional and national basis.

Before joining the firm, Sandy served as law clerk to U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Wiseman, Jr. of the Middle District of Tennessee. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Washington and Lee University in Virginia where he was an editor of the law review. Sandy’s hard work has lead him to be selected by Super Lawyers as a 2017 Mid-South Super Lawyer.

Sandy grew up the last of five children in a small town in west Tennessee, speaks fluent French, and has completed the New York and Chicago marathons in less than 3 hours each.  His 85 year-old father still practices law in the town where Sandy was raised. One lasting influence on Sandy’s life is his maternal grandmother, Mary Sanford Myatt of Memphis, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 102.
