McKinley represents a broad range of clients, including product manufacturers, businesses and utility providers in high-exposure matters involving product liability, catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, commercial breach of contract and consumer arbitration. He also has experience handling insurance bad faith and commercial tort claims.
Known for his composure and command of the details, McKinley takes pride in digging into the details of each case and being exceptionally prepared to advocate for his clients. He guides clients through every stage of litigation, from pre-suit strategy through discovery, motion practice and trial. He is particularly adept in civil discovery and dispositive motion work, often resolving cases early and efficiently. Recent examples of his work include:
- Securing a defense verdict on behalf of Teal Sales Inc. in a product liability suit. The plaintiff sought damages in excess of $7.3 million.
- Arguing in front of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in a pro bono case and successfully obtaining a reversal of the District Court’s summary judgment order.
- Winning early dismissal of wrongful death claims against an electronics manufacturer.
- Obtaining summary judgment on behalf of an auto manufacturer in a product liability lawsuit.
- Securing summary judgment dismissing claims against a small business in a personal injury lawsuit.
- Obtaining a favorable settlement for a client in a lawsuit in federal court involving breach of contract and fraud.
A Birmingham native, McKinley graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law. He remains engaged with the Birmingham Bar Association and is an active member of DRI. McKinley previously served on the Junior Boards for Cornerstone Schools of Alabama and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Outside of the office, McKinley enjoys cheering on the Crimson Tide, playing golf and cooking, especially when the grill is involved. He and his wife, Hannah, also an attorney, have three young children who keep them on their toes.
