Lightfoot is committed to the important work of hiring and developing talented lawyers from diverse backgrounds. Diversity and inclusion are core values at Lightfoot, and we believe fostering these important principles within our firm and the broader legal community requires intentional, tangible efforts on many fronts.
The annual Lightfoot Diversity Scholarship is open to diverse, qualified 1L and 2L law students. The recipient is awarded a $10,000 scholarship prize after the completion of a six-week summer clerkship in the firm’s Birmingham office.
We pair a summer clerkship with the scholarship because we believe Lightfoot offers a unique, hands-on experience to talented law students who want to become outstanding trial lawyers. Lightfoot’s summer program is an opportunity to learn from experienced and accomplished trial lawyers in the country and do work that matters. As a summer associate, you will work on real cases, attend depositions and often trials, interact with clients, and observe what it’s like to practice law at our firm. Moreover, because we hire our associates through the summer program, a clerkship at Lightfoot may launch your career as a trial lawyer.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will be asked to submit their resume, transcripts, cover letter, and answers to the following two questions:
- What is an example of how your diverse life experience has contributed to the person you are today and how you hope to use those experiences in your legal career?
- Do you have a personal connection to Birmingham, Houston or the U.S. Southeast? If not, please tell us why you are interested in our summer program.
